Fournier RF-4

$149.00

54" span, all balsa ARF. I used to love my old Cox Sportavia...I had several of them, both with the 049 glow engine, and with the 05 ferrite motor setup. Many happy memories of struggling for a few minutes to gain maybe 250 feet of height at the local schoolyard, then maybe hooking a thermal, if the sun and moon happened to align properly...it was a great model. There was talk of revising it some years ago, but it never happened, and Cox finally went out of business. Alas. This one, well, it has the nice looks of the old Sportavia, but it's smaller, and it flies a heck of a lot better. As a matter of fact, the first flight out of the box was 45 minutes. The provided outrunner motor will take the thing to speck height in about ten seconds, and it will do it many, many, many times in a row. The 50a ESC is also provided in the kit, all you need to supply is four 9g servos and a battery. It will fly just fine, and a long time, on just a 1300 3s pack, but a 2200 will work without any real difference in flight performance, too. It has bicycle landing gear, with two outrigger wheels in the wings, and a steerable tailwheel. Works fine, and it will take off from grass or pavement with no issues. You can hand-launch it, too, even if you are limp-wristed. It's all laser-cut balsa, and really well built and covered. Assembly only takes three or four hours, and the wing is two-piece for easy transport. It is capable of basic aerobatics, but it's really made for soaring around. Package includes plane, motor, and esc.
